Character clothing ideas

Here we have created some ideas to what we want our characters to be wearing in the trailer.
Our protagonist Jess will be wearing comfortable and warm clothing to suit her young and youthful character.
Our killer will be wearing dark clothing as he doesn't need to be seen. He will be wearing a hoodie as we don't want to reveal what he looks like.

Initial Ideas

This is our first mind map of some initial ideas for our trailer including some information about characters, locations, narrative ideas, trailers, and title ideas.

Question 1 : What is a trailer? What is the purpose?

What is a trailer?
Trailers `are film advertisements for films that will be exhibited at the cinema in the future. The term 'trailer' comes from being shown at the end of the film. This did not last as people did not stay till the end of the film and missed all potential trailers.
Short edited clips of selected scenes that are put together into a montage.
These can be from 1minute to 2 minute 30 seconds.

What is the purpose?

The purpose of a Trailer is to capture the audiences attention and draw them into what they are watching. It is also to advertise the film before its release. It is to inform and advertise to  the potential spectators. This is done by showing them  the most exciting or most relevant part of the film to entice them to come and watch it.

Question 2 - Where might a trailer be seen? How will different formats affect the viewing of the trailer?

Where might a trailer be seen?

Trailers for movies started of in the cinema screened after the actual film had been shown. However this wasn’t actually a good idea or practical because many people left straight after the film had finished so it was not being given its full potential. After assessing this and working out an alternative they decided to move the trailers so that they where previewed before the film started this worked well as the whole audience saw it and still to date it remains before the film is screened.

How will different formats affect the viewing of the trailer?

The formats you can view a trailer in are:
-The cinema
-An online viewing (for example fan sites and official websites)
-A class viewing
-On the TV (adverts)

By viewing the trailer in the cinema you will have the best experience out of all the options above. This is purely because the cinema is made for the viewers overall experience, this means that you are guaranteed the best audio quality, most of the time the best video quality, more of an atmosphere with other viewers and no distractions stopping you from viewing the trailer.

A format that is becoming increasingly popular is the Internet and in recent years people have been uploading and watching trailers to sites such as YouTube. However the Internet is viral marketing and sending friends and family links is becoming extremely popular, through recent research advertisements and links to trailers are now being shown on websites such as Facebook and Hotmail.

19/09/12 - Theory Lesson

Today in lesson we looked at Todorov's theory of equilibrium. We looked at the narrative structure of the shinning using Todorov's theory and wrote a 400 word evaluation reflecting what we had learnt. We looked specifically at four stages they are:

> Stage 1 = Equilibrium 'Harmony'

> Stage 2 = Disruption to the 'Harmony' (`Good vs Evil)

> Stage 3 = Recognition to the 'disruption'

> Stage 4 = Attempt to repair the 'disruption'

The after these stages have been completed we are then left with a 'New equilibrium' and the 'Harmony is restored'.

Question 3- what are the conventions of a slasher movie?
